What to expect at your teen's first class at TCT

By Trevor Cyr, founder and head coach · October 13, 2026 · 2 min read

Here's exactly what happens at your teen's first Academy class, from booking it to deciding afterward. It's free, it's fifty minutes, and I coach it myself.

Booking it

Pick any Monday to Thursday class at 4:00 or 5:00 PM and book it on the Academy page.No payment and no account needed.

The Academy is for ages 12 to 18.We don't train kids under 12.Every class is capped at ten.

What to bring

A water bottle, athletic clothes and clean indoor shoes. We supply all the equipment.

We're at 1077 Boundary Rd, Unit 108, in Oshawa. The number is 905-431-8084 if you need it.

The fifty minutes

It starts with mobility and movement work, so they move well before they move fast or heavy.

Then the strength block: squat, hinge, press and pull.Every lift is taught before any weight goes on.Bodyweight and light weights come before anything heavy, and the weight goes up a little at a time.

It finishes with speed or conditioning work: the turf, jumps, the sled or the bike.

I watch every rep.Your teen gets corrected and pushed, not handed a workout sheet.

Who else is in the room

Up to ten teens, all 12 to 18, and no adults mixed in.Part of the room plays rep hockey or lacrosse and part of the room has never played anything.Everyone does the same program, scaled to where they are.

There's no testing.Nobody gets ranked against the kid beside them.

Drop them off

Parents don't stay for Academy classes.Drop them off and pick them up fifty minutes later.

Or come back and train yourself.Adult classes start at 6:00 PM, right after the 5:00 Academy class, in the same room.Adults get a free first class too.Several Academy parents book the 6:00 and make it one trip.

After the class

They come, they train, you decide afterward.

If they want to keep coming, it's $99 every 4 weeks for once a week, $160 for twice, $225 for three times and $275 for four.A drop-in is $25.No contract: cancel any time and you're billed through the end of your current 4-week cycle. You can pause for 1 to 2 months a year.Credits work on any Academy session inside the cycle, so a missed Tuesday can be made up Thursday.

Two days a week is where most teens start: Monday and Wednesday, or Tuesday and Thursday. Here's why two.If you're still wondering whether it's safe, that has its own post.

Come try a class
